Americans’ Idle Time

Date: 06 April 2010
Category: Homophones

While this headline could refer to millions of unfortunate idle Americans who are unemployed, the point of the post is that fewer Americans (including this one) are watching American Idol according to the latest Nielsen Company ratings. Dancing with the Stars had more viewers last week than American Idol.

It’s a toss-up for me to choose as my all-time favorite idol between Paul Potts’ singing of the aria from Turandot and Susan Boyle’s rendering of I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables. Actually, both were performed on Britain’s Got Talen, the forerunner of American Idol.

Honorable mention goes to “General” Larry Potts and his original hit, Pants on the Ground.
